Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies is a not-for-profit organization with a history of exploring Canada’s Rocky Mountain Parks on horseback that dates back to 1923. They operate “simply because we want people from all walks of life to enjoy, appreciate and explore, on horseback, the wilderness backcountry mountains in the most spectacular country in the world.”

Their offering of full submersion into cowboy culture is a real deal six-day trail ride and journey far into the pristine wilderness of the Rocky Mountain backcountry beyond where one can comfortably hike or even mountain bike. It is days filled with learning, wilderness encounters and spectacular landscapes and nights enjoying hardy cowboy cuisine, campfires, fun with new friends, cozy tents and incredibly peaceful sleep.

We feel they are a great example of both an environmentally and socially responsible tourism organization as they hold great respect and appreciation for all peoples, places and creatures; environmental awareness is a priority and they are leaders in understanding the mountain backcountry and reducing their impact on this fragile ecosystem.  Their mission to “encourage travel on horseback through the Canadian Rockies, to foster the maintenance and improvement of old trails and the building of new ones; to encourage the love of outdoor life, the study and conservation of birds, wildlife and alpine growth and to assist in every possible way to ensure the complete preservation of the National Parks of Canada for the use and enjoyment of the public” -says it all.
